In ‘Acqua Alta’, Brandes paints a landscape immersed in water, inspired by the natural phenomenon that affects cities such as Venice. The buildings appear partially submerged, creating a feeling of precariousness and uncertainty. The landscape, reflecting the hues of the sky, seems suspended between two worlds: the one that remains above the water and the one that lies underwater, creating a double dimension. Oil on canvas is used to render the brightness of the water surface, and the soft shadows of the buildings that seem to brush against the water.
