In this work, part of Matthias Brandes’s latest body of work, the artist envisions a landscape entirely submerged by water, evoking the phenomenon that cyclically transforms cities like Venice. The buildings, only partially visible above the water, convey a sense of precariousness and anticipation. The landscape reflects the hues of the sky, creating the impression of a dual dimension: what remains on the surface and what is submerged by the water. The oil on canvas allows the artist to capture the shifting light of the lagoon and the soft shadows of the buildings, which seem to brush the water with a slow, almost restrained gesture.

A suspended composition in which reality and reflection merge, revealing the beauty and vulnerability of the landscape.
