20_Sonatine XP01

Toni Alfano’s paintings are a magical illusion, created on cardboard coated with a thin layer of cement. Through a slow stratification of tempera, the artist recreates the effect of an ancient wall, while the figures take shape using charcoal and bituminous enamels. The technique, of ancient origin, is called descialbo and consists in the removal of pictorial layers, as in the restoration of frescoes. This process itself evokes the theme of memory, understood as a stratification of marks, images, and time.
