The animal, a symbol of freedom and power, gallops without restraint, but the setting is part natural and part architectural, suggesting an interconnection between the organic and artificial worlds. The choice of oil on canvas allows a soft rendering of light and shadow, emphasising the movement of the horse and the serenity of the surrounding landscape.
