Andrea Giovannini observes the landscape from an unusual perspective, transforming the sea into a vast expanse of blue criss-crossed by subtle variations in tone and texture. Small aeroplanes emerge from above, skimming the surface, whilst a strip of coastline appears on the right. The contrast between the immensity of the water and the minute scale of the elements conveys a sense of space and lightness. The composition, dominated by shades of blue, guides the eye towards the coastline. The mixed media on wood technique accentuates the richness of the surface and the chromatic variations of the water.
