11_Arrival 409

A large ship and a small house: two seemingly disparate symbols that Matthias Brandes brings together in a composition of enigmatic charm. “Arrival” seems to depict the moment when a journey appears to have come to an end, evoking themes such as homecoming, memory and belonging. The presence of the cypress tree and the curious arrangement of the elements transform the scene into a poetic reflection on the meaning of home and the sense of arrival
