25_High water 419

Water has flooded the village in this painting by Brandes, yet the houses seem to accept this new situation with surprising naturalness. In *High Water*, the instability of the buildings highlights the fragility of what we consider safe and permanent. The artist tackles the theme of change without drama, relying on a palette of intense pinkish tones and a subtle sense of the absurd. The result is a landscape that retains its own harmony, even though all certainty seems to have vanished.
