18_Steamer 333

In this composition by the artist, a large steamship rests on a table covered with a white tablecloth, like a precious object removed from its natural setting. Brandes plays with the proportions and meaning of things, transforming an imposing vessel into an almost domestic presence. The trail of smoke seems to suggest an imminent departure. The journey thus becomes something to be imagined, even before it is undertaken.
