An object that looks like a ship but may not be one at all: Brandes constructs one of his most fascinating ambiguities here. The steam rises compactly, shaped by a textured and vibrant painting that transforms the smoke into a true architecture of light. The “steamboat” remains motionless on a table as if in a suspended scene, halfway between play and revelation. It is the moment when the form could move, change, depart - or remain there, perfect in its quiet uncertainty.
