In *Acqua Alta*, Matthias Brandes imagines a landscape entirely submerged by water, evoking the phenomenon that cyclically transforms cities such as Venice. The buildings, only partially visible above the water, convey a sense of precariousness and anticipation. The landscape reflects the hues of the sky, creating the impression of a dual dimension: what remains on the surface and what lies submerged beneath the water. The oil on canvas allows the artist to capture the shifting light of the lagoon and the soft shadows of the buildings, which seem to brush against the water with a slow, almost restrained gesture.

The result is a suspended image in which reality and reflection merge, revealing the beauty and vulnerability of the landscape.
